One of the main reasons why I prefer the 1990s over the present is because life was simpler. When I would walk into a restaurant with my family, I would see families talking and interacting with one another. I'm not saying this still doesn't happen. However, when I am out at lunch, I will commonly see groups of people sitting around the table looking down at their cell phones. I will admit that I am guilty of this every once in a while.

In the 90s, I personally feel like people were less caught up ways of the world, because most people did not have a cell phone. Because cell phones were uncommon, instant gratification seemed less common. People were more genuine. I was a kid, so my perspective is definitely different than if I was an adult in the 90s.
Going back to happy memories in the 90s, I remember having the freedom (after I finished my homework) to ride my bike around the neighborhood to visit my friends. After I would hang at their house, I would invite them over to jump on my trampoline and play the Nintendo 64. I would also trade Pokemon cards with the neighborhood kids, as the kid with the most Pokemon cards was the coolest. Good times!
I went to the Beach and the YMCA pool almost everyday. I loved to swim and boogie board. I would always watch my dad and older brother surf while I dug giant sand holes.

A pink and white pony cake. Perfect for any 7 year old girl.
I also had my very own 7 year old cake with the family. A castle cake with ice cream cones.
Rollerblading was my favorite hobby in the 90s. I did it every weekend!
My family and I would spend our time together and camp at Ginnie Springs. We would swim in the ice cold water and float down the river from spring to spring. I would walk on the dirt clay with my bare feet and would pick up Rollie Pollies and adopt them as my camping friends. I really enjoyed having outdoor time with my family. I didn't enjoy sleeping in a tent and waking up the next morning feeling sweaty from the humidity, but overall camping was pretty refreshing.
My favorite memory of all time is going the skating rink almost every weekend with my best friend Megan. We would rollerblade and I remember jamming out to the song "Tootsee Roll" and doing the Macarena as I would glide around the skating rink. The Macarena was a huge hit in the 90s! Everyone got so excited when they would hear that song.

Music in the 90s was the best! I loved listening to Britney Spears and The Backstreet Boys. My mom was very strict on the type of music I listened to. I missed out on a lot of the great music that the 90s had to offer. I ended up going on a 90s music binge in my college years to make up for it. I have a passion for 90s alternative and grunge music. I love bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins and the Stone Temple Pilots. My favorite band from the 90s is The Dave Matthews Band. Still my favorite band and a huge fan!
Some of my favorite TV Shows in the 90s were "The Rugrats", "Doug", "Rocket Power", "All That" and my all time favorite, "Kenan and Kel". As you can tell, I loved Nickelodeon. I also loved watching game shows, which were big in the 90s including, "Figure It Out", "Double Dare" and "What Would You Do" to name a few.
My first class trip to Seaworld with my BFF Dawn. Her and I are still Best Friends and keep in touch.
Having an older brother who always looked after me is like having a gem in the rocks.
